Terms and Conditions
Resnet Computing of the University of California, Riverside provides internet access for Residents living in Residence Halls, Stonehaven, and the International Village. These services are provided as educational services. Residents accessing the internet through Resnet Computing have the responsibility to follow and agree to all applicable Federal, State, County, City, and University regulations.
By using Resnet you have agree to the following:
1) Internet usage is a privilege not a right.
2) Tampering with the network equipment provided by Housing, Resnet Computing, or Computing and Communications, such as but not restricted to the faceplate, and/or the cable running to the faceplace, or any equipment loaned out by Resnet Computing, is considered destruction of University property.
3) Using additional network devices to connect to the Resnet network, such as but not restricted to routers, bridges, or wireless access points is prohibited.
4) Going over the bandwidth limit is considered an offense. Hogging the network connection can prevent others from accessing the internet. Please see the Resnet website for more detailed information on bandwidth.
5) Internet usage must be in accordance with Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other United States copyright regulations. Resnet Computing and the University of California, Riverside will be fully cooperative with law enforcements and governmental authorities/agencies.
6) Servers of any kind are prohibited on Resnet.
7) The student is responsible for keeping his/her computer clean of malacious programs, such as virus(es), worm(s), torjan horse(s), etc. The sudent is required to install antivirus software on his/her system and update it on a regular basis. Windows must also be updated on a regular basis.
8) Connection(s) provided by Resnet do not permit exploring/experimenting/accessing restricted information within the UCR network. This includes, but is not restricted to port/system scanning utilities. Any activity that denies another user(s) access to the internet/network or impairs the function of the network is considered abuse and is not tolerated.
9) Only one computer can be used to access the internet/network at any given time per user. The user's computer must also use a dynamic IP address provided by the Resnet DHCP server to access the internet/network. Using unauthorized/static IP address is prohibited.
10) No commercial usage on the connection provided by Resnet will be permitted. Charging for any network usage on Resnet is prohibited.
11) The student is responsible for the traffic generated from his/her computer whether it is intentional or unintentional.

Violating any of these policies can result in immediate revocation of internet/network access and appropriate consequences for the violator. Continuous compromises will result in permanent revocation of internet/network access.
Exceptions to the Resnet policies require a written authorization from the respective academic dean.
Resnet does not monitor/scan network traffic unless the situation mandates.
